Zumba Classes
Zumba is the newest fitness craze based on Latin Dance . We are hoping to start classes for adults this term in the hall on a Monday from 4-5pm. The classes will be in a block of 10, 5 each half-term, but we would need payment in advance for anyone wishing to join us, many of our staff are interested. If you are interested please leave your name in the school office and we will get back to you.

Year 6 SATs Boycott
The National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) and the National Union of Teachers (NUT) are calling upon their members to boycott the Year 6 SATs this year. Along with many other schools locally and nationally Glade will not be doing the formal tests this year but will be using rigorous assessments internally to level the pupils. All Year 6 children took a letter home yesterday.

Triathlon
On Tuesday of this week some of our children took part in the ‘England Corus Kids of Steel Triathlon’ at Newham Leisure Centre. The children had to swim 50metres, cycle 1.2km and then finish with a 5oom run with no rest in between any of the events. The whole team performed outstandingly, with Jordan Green coming in first for the boys and Hayley Bowyer for the girls. This was followed by a short photo shoot and drinks after which the children did some indoor athletics coaching taught by top class athletes. Becky Condon set the record for the day by throwing the javelin in a simulated style event. The children also took part in long jump and sprint training. After athletics we had a lovely picnic which was followed by learning of cycling skills. A great day was had by all. Thank you to all the parents for their support and well done to all the children who took part:
Callie Watts, Jordan Green, Ellie Brown, Oscar Simpson, Lauren Condon, Becky Condon, Mark Linehan, Rebecca Welch, Gemma Elliott, Hayley Bowyer, Max Elliott, Lewis Evans

Mini Games
A big well done to all children who took part in the Mini Games tournament. Our rugby team stole the show, finishing 5th out of 22 schools. Louee Petty and Harry Green were scouted for trials for Wanstead and Woodford rugby club. Thank you to all the parents who helped and supported, in particular Mrs Green.

School Nurse Monthly Clinic
Our school nurse, Lisa Blackmore, will be starting a drop in clinic for parents with concerns about their child from next month. Further details to follow.

Reminder-Polling Day
Just to remind you that next Thursday, 6th May school will be closed for pupils.

Dangerous Driving/Parking
Once again please ensure that you take care when driving around the school area and when parking and dropping off or picking up your child. The local roads are now a 20mph zone so please adhere to this limit and be considerate of others at all times.

PAWS Non-Uniform Day
Thank you to all who donated money last week for our St. George’s Day non-uniform. We collected £186!

newsletter 22 april

Welcome back, I hope you all had a good break and are back rested and ready for the busy Summer term!

Flight Delays Fortunately, we have only had 4 members of staff affected by the recent flight restrictions; Mrs. Leverton in Italy, Mr. Clarkson in Poland, Mrs. Grant in Thailand and Miss Willers in New Zealand. Thankfully, Mrs. Leverton and Mr. Clarkson are now safely back home.
6W will be covered by Miss Porter and the usual Year 6 team, and other staff duties and responsibilities have been covered within the school team. We have 10 families also affected by the travel restrictions but overall there has been little or no disruption to the school.

Nursery Hours From September 2010 all pre-school children are entitled to 15 hours of Nursery education a week. This will have an impact on our Nursery hours as all children will be allocated 3 hours Nursery provision a day. With this in mind the Foundation stage team have got together to plan for the next academic year looking at timings, staffing, the new Reception building and equipping a shared outdoor area. After lengthy discussions, taking in to account the needs of pupils and the smooth functioning of the school we propose changing the Nursery hours as follows:
Morning
Start now—9.05am changing to 8.45am from Sept 2010.
End 11.35am now, changing to 11.45am from Sept 2010.
Afternoon
Start 12.55pm now, changing to 12.30pm from Sept 2010.
End 3.25pm now, changing to 3.30pm from Sept 2010.
Please note that this will take effect from Sept 2010. We are consulting parents views on these changes and welcome any comments.

Year 1 Multi Sports Competition If your child took part in this event last term and you have not yet returned the kit please do so as soon as possible. Thank you.

Drinking Water As the weather begins to improve and we have hotter days please note that we have facilities in school for fresh drinking water. In each class there is a tap for drinking water. Your child can also bring in a bottle of water which they can keep in the classroom (separate from the packed lunch drink). We also have drinking fountains in the playground and near the field.

Measles, Chicken pox and Shingles Please inform the school office immediately if your child is suffering from any of the above. We have a child in school who is currently receiving treatment for cancer and so it is very important that we know so that we can inform the family straight away as this could affect the treatment. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

Non-Uniform Day Thank you to everyone who either sent in donations of money or an Easter Egg last week. Morning Club Parents Lately we have noticed that some parents are using the back car park when dropping off their children. Unfortunately, they are parking awkwardly which means that when staff arrive they cannot get into the car park themselves. Please be more considerate.

ISSC Allergy Forms We have recently sent out forms on behalf of our catering company regarding any children with allergies to certain foods, etc. These forms must be back by 19th April at the latest or else we will be unable to provide a lunch to your child and they will have to bring in a packed lunch each day instead. If your child had an allergy but does not have it anymore please inform us of this also so that we can amend our records.

Assemblies Neil Poole led our Easter assembly this morning on the theme of the Easter story and Easter time tradition.
Our Gifted and Talented assembly took place on Wednesday morning. As always we are amazed at the range of talents at Glade and wish to thank Mr. Merchant for all his hard work putting the assembly together.

New Arrangements for Choir From next term, choir will take place on Wed from 12.40-1.15pm. All KS2 children are welcome! (this will be in place of Tues after school).
