No.6 - 15th October 2009

We have really enjoyed our Science activities this week. Everyone has been doing lots of practical enquiries to find out scientific facts . There are lots of great scientists in our school!

We have also been lucky enough to have a visiting science show which demonstrated the science of the circus and Galileo's great mistake which included lots of explosions, which the children loved.

Reception Admissions 2010
If your child is eligible for a reception place for September 2010, please remember to send in your applications to Lynton House by December 11th 2009, so that your child does not lose out on being allocated a place.

Secondary School Applications
Year 6 parents, please ensure your applications reach Lynton House by 23rd October 2009. This deadline is very important.

Attendance
Well done 4N for your 100% attendance!

Car Parks
Please do not park in the staff car parks in Atherton Road or Harewood Drive, as these are specifically for staff use.

Photographing Pupils
From time to time we take photos of the children in class and on trips, etc. The photographs are used in displays within school, but also on the school website. If you have any objection, please let us know by writing in.

Parents Evening Appointments
I hope that you have all managed to make appointments with the classteacher. If not, please do so in order that you can meet with the teacher to discuss your child’s progress.

One World Week—Thursday 22nd October 3.45-4.15pm
Once again we would like to run an International Food Tasting event. This was very popular last year. We would very much like your support once again. If you are able to donate a dish from a different country, please send it in on Thursday 22nd October clearly labelled with the ingredients. Thank you to all who have offered to donate so far.

Non-Uniform Carnival Day Friday 23rd October

PAWS/PANTO
PAWS have once again booked some tickets for the annual pantomime at the Kenneth More Theatre in Ilford. It is for 6th January 2010 and the tickets are priced at £9 per person. Children need to be accompanied by an adult. We have only secured a number of tickets so places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. If you would like to purchase tickets please send the money in to school by Friday 23rd October and place it in a clearly marked envelope with the correct money and number of tickets you require.

Late Collection of Children at the end of the school day
Some parents are using the office staff as free ‘childcare’ for 15-30 minutes regularly. School finishes at 3.30pm as does our duty of care. Therefore, if this continues, we will send the children to after school club and pass the charge onto the parents concerned. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!

Good Works Assemblies
Please note that class RN will come out slightly late on Fridays because of the afternoon Good Works Assemblies.

Book Fair
The school book fair will start from tomorrow until next Wednesday 21st October in the main school hall at 3.30pm each day. Please come along to support it.

Sealegs Theatre Co.
This company will be visiting school on 2nd November and will be performing ’The Selfish Giant’ puppet show to all children from Nursery to Year 6. Please could you donate a £1 towards the cost of this extravaganza.

No.5 - 8th October 2009

As always, we have arranged a week to celebrate the diversity of our school community and have planned a ‘Food Event’ for 22nd October, where we would invite parents to donate traditional food to share with others. If you are able to do this please ensure that all items of food arrive in school by lunchtime on 22nd October and are clearly labelled with the ingredients, so that we know what they contain.
Also, Friday 23rd October will be a non-uniform day, when all the children will participate in a school carnival. More to follow from Ms. Nwichi.

Science Week
Miss Willers has once again organised a week to promote Science across the school for next week. I am sure the children will be very excited about this, and we look forward to parents coming in on Friday 16th October for Good Works assemblies to find out what each class has been doing.

Jewellery/Uniform
I have been disappointed to see some children coming to school not in uniform and wearing large earrings etc. Please note, it is school policy that all children should be in uniform and jewellery is not allowed except for religious observance. Please also note that children wearing jewellery will be asked to remove it.

Partnership Festival
Apologies to Simran Rattan who was missed off the list of children that participated in this festival. Also could children who took part in the Partnership Festival please return their pink T-shirts to Mr. Merchant as soon as possible as they are to be used again next year.

Football Match against St. Anthony's
Well played to the team! Even though we lost, everyone played really well and worked well together as a team. Thank you to all the parents who came along to support us. It was great to see so many of you there. ‘Men’ of the match go to Daniel Hildreth for excellent goalkeeping and Emilios Andreou for great defending skills.
Mr. Merchant and Mr. Ashwell

Dinner Money
Please note dinner money cheques must be payable to ‘London Borough of Redbridge’.
Late Collection of Children School ends at 3.30pm each day, please arrive on time to collect your child.

Good Works Assemblies
Over recent weeks I have been thrilled to see such large numbers of parents coming along to Good Works assemblies on Fridays.
For the afternoon session, in order to help us dismiss the children promptly at the end of the day, from this week I will be asking children to go straight back to class once assembly is finished.

Late Gate/Attendance
Over the last 2 years the attendance figures for the school have shown a decline. Although the main reason for absences is general illness, I am becoming increasingly concerned that some children appear to have absences too frequently. In such cases, the Education Welfare Officer, will be requesting medical evidence from parents. She will also be doing ‘Late Gates’ on a regular basis to monitor punctuality.
On this note, I would like to say ‘well done’ to class 5M for receiving the highest attendance percentage so far since our return in September 97.93%!

No.4 - 1st October 2009

Parents Yoga
I am sad to inform you that for the time being we have had to cancel the Parents Yoga classes that took place on Tuesday afternoons. This is due to the falling number of parents who were attending. If you are interested in these classes still please write in to the school office as soon as possible and if we get a firm number of parents who are interested we may be able to re start the classes.

Parents Evening - 20th October from 3.45-7.45pm
Accompanying this is a letter regarding Open Evening appointments. There will be a separate letter for Year 6 as we shall be arranging appointments for them during the morning of the 20th October or daytime appointments on the 22nd.

Long Boat
You will probably have noticed that the long boat in our school playground is out of use as it is broken. We have contacted the company concerned and hopefully this repair will be carried out soon.

Year 6 Teambuilding
Our year 6 children had a very exciting time on Monday when they took part in a variety of team building exercises. The children really enjoyed themselves and I am sure they will all benefit from this bonding experience.

Year 5 Drama Centre
Year 5 also had an exciting time on Tuesday of this week when they were joined by a member of the Drama Centre at Redbridge. The children were given part of a script from Homers Odyssey and they had to act it out. There were different parts to play including the parts of a 6 headed monster and a giant whirlpool. Birkan told of how the children enjoyed the time and about the warm up game they had before starting the main task. Anisha said" It was really good, I liked Oscar, Danyaal and Kane’s whirlpool.”

School Council
I would like to congratulate all those children who have presented such excellent manifestos during assemblies this week and last. I am very impressed with the very creative posters that have been displayed around school. Officer positions will be announced next week.

Holiday Dates
Please make a note of the holiday dates displayed on the next page to ensure that no holidays are taken during term time as these will be deemed as unauthorised and the local authority will be administering fines accordingly.

Activities Fair
We had a great turnout for this on Tuesday. Feedback from parents was very positive indeed. We will aim to do this on an annual basis in future.
